Recirculating Aquaculture Systems

The Cibus Difference

The Cibus Biotechnologies hybrid RAS technology takes the best aspects of clear-water RAS and bio floc RAS technologies into a less expensive, streamlined, yet high producing approach. It is a nearly clear-water method that uses less complicated and expensive equipment than clear- water RAS and does not involve the constant monitoring and maintenance of bio floc, while retaining beneficial bacteria that contribute to overall shrimp health. Importantly, that bacteria contribute little to the BOD of the system, lending most of the oxygen in the system towards shrimp production. Our patent pending design ensures high oxygen levels and efficient waste capture of both sludge and protein foam from the surface of the operating pond. Shrimp can be raised to up to 8 kg/m3, and without the level of monitoring and inputs required to maintain bio floc. This system is highly adaptable to Indian farmers and permits intensive production densities.

Our Hybrid RAS Technology

  • Designed to control culture conditions
  • Intensive, pond based water reuse
  • No bio floc, near clear water conditions
  • High oxygen levels, protein fractionation in situ.
  • pH control beneficial bacteria, Heat exchange.
  • Biosecure solar powered indoor facility.
  • Specialized seed and feed.
  • Provisionally patented technology.

Environmental Sustainability

Advantages of our Hybrid RAS

The following are the advantages of Our Hybrid RAS over conventional shrimp farming in 1.5 acres:
Factor Conventional Farming Cibus Hybrid RAS
Production 4.5 Tons 60 Tons
Water required 6000 metric tons 150 metric tons
Water recirculation Nil 1-2 times per day
Seasonal Variations Yes No
Mortality Very high Negligible
Exposure to diseases Yes No
Use of antibiotics and chemicals Yes No
No. of cycles of harvest per year 1-2 4 - with the weight of the animal being 25 gms consistently

Our Proposed Roadmap for Shrimp Industry

Upon demonstrating the success of the pilot to the Indian shrimp industry, we along with the govt of Andhra Pradesh, are planning to have a Public Private Partnership whereby the farmer is provided with the CAPEX and operational expenses and a buy back arrangement assuring the farmer of an income which will be almost income 7 times the current levels.
